    Description

The Early American Pattern Glass pattern known as SWAN (aka Swan With Mesh) is often attributed to the Canton Glass Company. The Early American Pattern Glass Society notes:
Other than the patent that was issued to David Barker while he worked at the Brilliant Glass Company in 1882 (and assigned to a different company) there is no evidence that Canton made this pattern. (In 1883 Barker helped form the Canton Glass Company). Unlike several early Canton patterns, it does not show up in any form in any wholesaler assortments of the day. There is nothing in the trade quotes or any advertisements to document it.
Never the less, this hard-to-find pattern is a very collectible one. Listed here is a large compote that stands 12 inches in height with a 8.25 inch bowl diameter. The glass is in excellent condition with no damage from nicks, chips, flea bites, etc. There is a shear mark in bottom of the bowl that is to be expected in glass from the 19th century.  A beauty for your collection!
