McKinley Memorial platter
"It is Gods Way.  His Will Be Done"
Pennsylvania, 1901, this is a beautiful bread plate in the McKinley Memorial pattern. It was made by The United States Glass Co. of Pittsburgh, PA in 1901 as a memorial for the assassinated President McKinley. US Glass apparently remade a platter which was originally done for the McKinley Presidential campaign in 1895. This is how President Teddy Roosevelt became the next President. This platter is 10-1/2 inches long by 8 inches wide. The rim is 1-1/4 inches tall. The figure of McKinley is in the center. He carries a small roll in his right hand on a stippled ground. To his right is “Born 1843” and on his left is “Died 1901”. A row of tiny beads circles the portrait with a clear band beyond that. In this clear band at the top is “It Is God’s Way” and at the bottom is “His Will Be Done”...President McKinley's last words after he was shot in 1901. Around this clear band and making the border of the rim are two laurel sprays with a rosette at the bottom. These laurel leaves are stippled.  Good condition.
