Vintage Dolnet Bel-Air Alto Saxophone

Description

A rare late 1950's/early 1960's vintage 'Bel-Air' model Eb alto saxophone made by Dolnet of Paris. These are wonderful, hand-made instruments - worthy competitors to Selmer or Buffet! - but not imported to this country in significant numbers at the time, so not as well known. They were played by a number of American expatriate musicians, such as Don Byas and Lester Young, and have developed a growing following due to their quality and low price in comparison to better known vintage saxes. It is lacquered brass and is in great condition for its age!
​  The recent set of Selmer tan leather pads (with brown plastic resonators) have been reseated and adjusted, key corks installed as needed, and the horn plays great from top to bottom, with a warm, spread tone reminiscent of a vintage Conn or Martin, good intonation, comfortable keywork: I've really enjoyed playing this horn! Comes with Protec gig case in solid condition.
