his listing is for a Yamaha YAS-23
alto saxophone. Yamaha has been the leader in the student band instrument market for the past several decades, and the YAS-23 model is probably the most commonly recommended sax by band directors and private teachers for their students. This is a very well built instrument with good ergonomics and solid intonation. Although this is considered a 'student' level instrument, it's quality is on par with the intermediate, or even pro level offerings of many other brands.
This one is in ready to play condition right out of the box! I have just given it a "COA" (clean, oil, and adjust) job, which is much more thorough than most ebay instruments receive. The instrument was fully dis-assembled and thoroughly cleaned, inside and out. This includes washing of the body and neck, wiping down all of the keys, and running pipe cleaners through all of the hinge tubes to remove old, degraded key oil. Then any worn, damaged, or missing pads/corks/felts are replaced. The mechanisms are re-assembled, and meticulously adjusted so that all pads are sealing properly with a light touch. This instrument plays great from top to bottom, as you can hear in the demo video linked below of the actual instrument being sold.

This sax is in overall very good physical condition. The body is perfectly straight, and the neck has not been pulled down. There is a dent/flat spot on the bottom of the bow from a prior owner resting it on their chair. This is extremely common with student owned instruments, but does not affect how it plays. Aside from that, there are a handful of very minor pings and nicks, but no other significant dents or dings. The lacquer is mostly intact, with normal wear and scratching consistent with normal use.
This sax comes with an unmarked plastic mouthpiece, which is in very good condition. The facing is nice and smooth.  It has been cleaned/sanitized, so it is ready to use. Also included are a ligature, mouthpiece cap, neck strap, reed case, cork grease, and various cleaning supplies including a wand style swab that doubles as an end plug. Reeds are not included, but I have some available separately.
This sax comes in its original case. The case is also in overall very good condition. The outer covering has come off on one side, exposing the wood, and there are few other small spots where it is scuffed away. It is solid, and protects the horn as it should though. The inside has normal wear and tear, but it is odor free. If you want to upgrade to a better case, I do have a nice Protec brand case that I could swap this one out for, for an additional . This is a great horn for beginner to intermediate level players. It would also make a great backup, or double for more advanced players. This model holds its value very well at this level, so if you decide to move up to an intermediate or pro level horn a few years down the road, you will likely be able to recoup most of your investment in this one.
